Space saving lol, without heatspreaders you definately put something else between your dimms...

I figured I would post too since she showed me the picture..

Really an odd thing here, wouldn't this impede heat transfer??

Seems like a stupid marketing ploy to me.. Im mean jeesh, their calling it a "green" method vs. standard heatsinks... what idiots.

I guess if we all breathe 'less' each day... we can call ourselves "green" too

I actually like to handle RAM with heatsinks more personally. It makes me feel like I'm less likely to damage something.

Heatspreaders definitely improve the appearance of ram but in all but the most extreme cases are unnecessary (even more so the ram cooling fans sold by companies like corsair and OCZ).

I ran Ballistix Tracers a few years ago and one of them actually burned me when I brushed my hand against the heat spreader by accident after I'd been gaming for a couple hours.

Damn things got hot!!

About the whole 'invisible' RAM cooler thingy... I'm going with the snake oil theory for the time being.
At long last...

Does unoverclocked memory today really need the heatsink? My GeiL 2133 CL6 1.65 runs cold as ice and it only has really small heatsink which I doubt are doing anything at all..

Back in the days when memory chips ran @ +2.65v there was no need for heatsink, is it really that important today?

Never the less I'll never remove the heatsink from my Dominatos GT since they look really badass, all black and red..

Hence why my old D9's were fine without a fan until I started doing very memory intensive stuff, such as Memtest, under which they got hot enough to raise my CPU temperatures by 5c simply from the heat radiating off them going into the CPU fan, right?

Wait for the awesomely OCing IC to become the norm, like BH5 and D9's, both of those required active cooling under a full load or they'd overheat, heck, even my G.Skill DDR2s at 2v put out a fair amount of heat.
