MSI - Isolated incidents or a bad company?

Thread Starter
I had an MSI mobo about 2 years ago and it arrived DoA from Tigerdirect. It was RMA's twice, and the 3rd board finally worked. When I built my next PC, some of the metal casing above the Serial port along with the one above the PS/2 connectors was bent up. After such an experience, I'm wondering if I should gamble again on it, or go with ASUS?

isolated incident. MSI is a good company and i've never had any trouble from them, that being said Asus is also a very good company (possibly more reliable, this is debatable), so i cant really tell you what to do, but they are both very good companies

I've never owned an MSI board myself, but from what I've heard they might be slightly less reliable than Asus or Gigabyte. Sure, if you get a good board you shouldn't have any problems, but I can think of several people on this forum reporting major issues (i.e. boards overheating and catching on fire). So yes, I'd say it's more of an isolated thing than anything that reflects on the company as a whole.

Ah, seems I just have bad luck then. I'm looking to upgrade to my mobo, and this time I'm spending more on it, would rather not end up with a decision I'll continuously regret, like the one I have now.

Edit: The 3rd board I got for tiger direct was an ASUS, so I guess the quality was a good contrast. That may be where my Bias comes from, 2 dead MSIs then an ASUS that worked fantastic.

I love MSI, have owned several of their boards and video cards throughout the years. Have always been a very satisfied with their quality of products and support.

So far my first RMA experience with them is so-so. I sent in my GTX 260, a week and a half later (Not that bad), they sent me a replacement. The replacement was faulty (Actually a completely different issue from the first card) so I sent it back, and this time they paid for my shipping which was nice of them. So this Friday the second replacement will arrive and hopefully be functional.

That's gotta be an isolated incident. MSI wouldn't be in business if that was par for the course. I would choose the board I most wanted, and as long as it were a major brand with many users, not worry about MSI vs. Asus vs. Gigabyte vs. EVGA etc...

Hrmm, only had 2 RMA's with them in the past, both times I was sent a BNIB replacement.

I'm not so much worried about a "name" on the board, I'm just wary that I've never had a good experience with them.
