New build

Hiya OCN.

The computer I got atm is my sig rig, and I'm kind of feeling like I'm not using it to its full potential, at all, since all I do is just game, browse the internet, watch movies and so on. This week when I saw my electrical bill (they've updated the power usage-monitoring-thingy this month) I started thinking if I really need this build at all since it basically just sits at my desk all day long "drinking" power. Therefor, I figured I might aswell make a new thread over here and ask you guys what you think I should do.

I figured I could sell my rig for about 1400 euros, got some other stuff in it than it says in my sig aswell, since it's fully functional, overclocked, assembled and some pretty nice cable management aswell, imo anyway.

Was thinking of getting something along these lines:

CPU - Intel core i3 530
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws 1333 mHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte P55A-UD3
GPU - Asus HD 5850
PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro 600W Modular
HDD - Three 500GB Samsung F3's and RAID 0 them
Case - CM 690 since I just love it so damn much
Case fans: 6 Xigmatek 120mm Orange / White LEDs
CPU cooler - Spire Thermax Eclipse II
Fan controller - Zalman MFC1-Plus

This would add up to about 1040 euros including shipping, which would leave me with about 360 euros more in my pocket. And that would absolutely be nice.

Again, rig is mainly used for gaming. ( WoW, CoD:MW2, L4D2, Just Cause 2 and some other games )

I'm planning on overclocking quite a bit since it'll still consume less power than my current system, both under load and as idle.

So.. Thoughts, suggestions are really appreciated.

Do tell me if I'm just being silly and should put up with my current rig and get rid of the power-hungry HD 4890 and get a HD 5850 instead.

Thanks.

you may have a smaller bill plus money in your pocket but how much did it cost you to build and how much of a loss your going to have? also i think you would regret down sizing somewhere down the line when your computer starts to struggle with newer games and so on

Mm.. I guess you're right. It's not just how much it cost when I bought the parts I've kind of bonded with my computer while putting it together, so at the same time as I want a smaller bill, I kind of don't want to part from my computer.. It's beautiful in its own way really, when you think about it.

OCN: The only place on the web where you can find people who say they have had bonding experiences with their computer. I'm one of those people too
