Whenever you like, just boot from the firmware update disc, which you can download from Intel's site...

I usually try to do it before installing Windows, because then if there was any data loss (i've never seen any) then you've not got anything to lose.

Basically as long as we are talking Sandforce (Vertex 2/Agiliy 2/Callisto + others) and Intel G2 you cant really make a bad choice as both are amount the top SSD. The only real minus with the Intel G2 is that is has slow write speeds compared to Sandforce but most things you use SSD for will be Read and thats what Intel and Sandforce is good at both.

For Space it all depends on how many things you plan to install on the SSD. Win7 64bit is about 10GB big. Stuff like System Restore, Hibernation, Pagefile uses alot of GB but you can disable these (move Pagefile to HD) to save many GB like i have done myself.

If you can fit this on a X25-V 40GB with your programs/games then it will work fine, but you wont get the best speed as X25-V 40GB is a budget version and has slower Write speeds then the normal G2 80GB model.

For max speed overall the OCZ Vertex 2 60GB should be the choice but Intel X25-M G2 80GB is still very fine.

Here are some bench examples from Net: (Speed varies from PC used)

Single 80GB Intel X25-M G2

Intel X25-V 40GB

Vertex 2 100GB (mine )

The Vertex 60GB EX should be similar speed wise to Vertex 100GB but you can check to be sure. The Agility 2 will be slower in 4k random Read/Write compared to Vertex 2.

I hope this helps

Yes, download the ISO file, burn it to a disc, (right-click and "Windows Disc Image Burner" easiest) then boot from that CD, press Y a bunch of times, and reboot.

That is valid for Intel OCZ or any other brand that supports Firmware update?

No, just for Intel...

OCZ has their own methods, check their (very complicated IMO) forums for random download threads, since they have no download section on thier site...

For example you need to be at version x to get to version y etc...

Best to read up on OCZ forums to get an idea of what to do...

Other brands: varies... read their support pages.

Upgrading Firmware on OCZ Sandforce SSD is a very simple matter. You upgrade from either Vista or Win7 using OCZ update Tool.

It sure looks easy but sandforce is out of my league do not have the budget even the Intel X25-M G2 is pushing it i do not want to regret though

I'm going to go with the Vertex 2. But, in everyday performance, I can all but guarantee that you won't even notice a difference in performance (speed) bewteen all 3. If you really need that extra 20gb's of space, then the choice is clear.
