This is an issue with ATT and not Apple and the iPad. Title is inflammatory and begging for a flame war, probably on purpose by the writer for hits and as revenge for their beef with Apple.

Pretty much.

Update: AT&T sent us a statement apologizing for the breach and downplaying the impact:

"AT&T was informed by a business customer on Monday of the potential exposure of their iPad ICC IDS. The only information that can be derived from the ICC IDS is the e-mail address attached to that device.
This issue was escalated to the highest levels of the company and was corrected by Tuesday; and we have essentially turned off the feature that provided the e-mail addresses.
The person or group who discovered this gap did not contact AT&T.
We are continuing to investigate and will inform all customers whose e-mail addresses and ICC IDS may have been obtained.
We take customer privacy very seriously and while we have fixed this problem, we apologize to our customers who were impacted."
AT&T, not Apple.

Just using the source title like we're supposed to.

And if you could link me to the article(s) you are referring to, I couldn't seem to find any in my quick search. I remember seeing the amount mentioned, but never that it was the motive of the suicide.

I updated the OP.

While it is AT&Ts issue, I'm 87% positive that Apple has gone over the network protocols and methods many times. They aren't just 'at the mercy' of AT&T. I'm categorizing it in my mind as a joint failure.

Remember that GSM SMS issue a while back that BOTH Google and Apple had to issue a patch for to fix? Companies can go over protocols and methods all they want, but they cannot test for each and every situation, otherwise software like DRM would be uncrackable. You have to be aware of an issue in order to fix it and in order to be aware of it, it has to happen first or one would have to magically stumble upon it. Now if Apple KNEW about it and didn't do anything about it with ATT, then I would be more inclined to agree with you.

This is a problem with AT&T, not Apple. Go away trolls, it's no longer funny.

All software technology made by man can be hacked and exploited by man. This is something that you have to learn to live with and simply hope the companies of the products in question can come out with fixes and patches fast enough to prevent significant damage. If you can't handle that, go live in a cave with no electricity or something.
