Game build, continuing

Thread Starter
Because I haven't made up my mind yet AMD vs. Intel I'm starting a new thread here because I guess AMD related talk doesn't belong in my previous topic which you can find http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...-budget-6.html here.

Build is for gaming. DVD drive will be recycled. Budget around 1000,- euro only for the tower excluding OS.

What I have so far.

Phenom 955
Stock cooler or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus or Scythe Mugen
UNKNOWN MOBO need some help here.
Cheapest 1600mhz Corsair or G.Skill RAM
Cheapest 5870 or 5850
Samsung F3 drive 1 or 0,5 TB
Antec TP-750
HAF 922

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Good list. I don't know anything about AMD so I can't help you there, but I won't buy the cheapest gpu. I would get something with a good warranty from a trusted manifacture. Xfx and Asus are the best. Good choice on ram.

Intel core i5 OC'd rapes even the 1090T for gaming so would be better than the 955,

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpu...d-cpu-review/6

Overall CPC benchmark score for i5 OC'd = 1953
X4 955 = 1464
X4 965 = 1444

Even the 1090T six core from AMD gets swamped by an i7-930.

Yes but for a higher CPU cost and a higher platvorm cost (with the known limitations of the 1156 chipset). The questions is, is that worth it?

More times than not, AMD is the best price/performance cpu you can buy. I've always bought them for that reason...I don't really care to compare a processor that costs nearly twice as much in some cases and see how many % points it'll come out ahead of AMD.

You can try this MSI motherboard. It's doesn't cost a lot for a motherboard and it has some pretty good reviews on it.

Edit: Just noticed it is DDR2. So, if you want DDR2 RAM, then I guess you can get this one.

Just found another MSI board. This one seems like it is a lot better for your money since it is DDR3 and it has 2 PCI-E slots.

I don't know whether it's ok to buy dated hardware ie. buying DDR2 RAM :x.
