Try Try Again 930 4.2 Quest for a stable OC

Thread Starter
So i posted earlier about taking my cpu to the limit, well i found it, 4.2 is the most reasonable speed i can take my 930 and im having some troubles.

Ive ran prime tests 4 hrs plus but it eventually bsods.

2 most common errors

124 - QPI/ Vcore
0A - Unstable Ram, Increase QPI, Increase Vcore

i just did 18 out of 20 passes in Linx but i had an error on the 18th run.

heres a screen shot

Ive raised my Vcore and QPI one or 2 notches to no avail, should i just continue to do this?

Ram Timings are at factory for my gskill 2x3 6 gig 1600 mhz ram

9-9-9-24-2n

could it be a memory issue too?

I had a 930 that wouldn't test stable at 4.2, even at extremely high Vcores for air.

You're messing with the right settings. You can try messing with CPU and IOH Skews and the CPU Differential Amplitude at each voltage bump just to see if something more obscure gets it stable.

I go for three passes of Memtest86+ and 1000% of HCI to make sure memory is stable. Then I do 50 passes of LinX and 24 hours and blend. I've had OCs fail at over 20 runs of LinX, so I just do the even 50 now.

Take the IOH and ICH up to 1.2v just to eliminate those as causing instability. Try 1.8, 1.84, and 1.88 PLL at each voltage bump. Higher PLL can either help or hurt stability.

Is 9-9-9-24 what your memory is rated for? That's a bit loose for 1600. You should easily be able to get 8-8-8-22 out of it if I had to guess. Don't run it tighter than spec until you get the CPU figured out though of course.

got a question of ya. Does it lockup/BSOD on you when you use your pc? stock cpu's will fail stress tests all the time. IF your system is stable at your max gaming/rendering/whatever its stable. i can pass 20 passes of Maximum of IBT, 1 hour of prime 95 on any setting, my 4.2 at 1.344 is 100% stable to me. i have not had a BSOD with running my pc over 17 hours(not idle, always used) a day for the past 4 days. If it gets to a week, i consider it stable.

well thats good, but from what ive read if prime or linx or IBT cannot run for a long period of time successfully it increases the chances for files to become corrupt.im looking for 12 hr stable in prime, 40 pass in linx to consider stable, oh and pass in memtest 2 1/2 hrs
