Is a Celeron D 351 (3.2 Ghz 775 256k) good? I found one for $70 after $40 rebate!

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1519769

Here is an change in motherboard:

Intel D945GTPL Intel Socket 775 MicroATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / 10/100 Ethernet LAN / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA $99

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...P=OTC-SHOPPING

Also, since the processor is so much cheaper, I will put a eVGA 7300GS PCIe in their system. That should be plenty fast for a media style computer.

Wow! That $40 Celeron processor is no longer being sold... But 5 minutes ago it was lol... I am going to have to fix that!

Changing the Celeron D 341 to a Celeron D 351 (3.2Ghz). That increases the price $30

Yes, I think you have an excellent set for a value workstation. With a Celeron "D" the grouping is great.

Be careful that you don't spend $100.00 of your time to save $10.00

Do you still plan on using it even for mild gaming? No overclocking I'm guessing because of the Intel MOBO?

It is not for me. A neighbor who doesn't know the difference between a harddrive and memory is paying me to build it. I chose an Intel board for its reliability / stability. When I do the initial testing of computer I may up the FSB 1-2% to give them a little boost. (Intel mobos allow for up to a 10% increase in FSB) But, since this is in a cube, it is going to run very hot. So, whatever I do, it will be 24 hour stress tested.

These people's old computer is a PII 500Mhz with 128mb RAM and 2GB harddrive

This computer can handle most games (even BF2 at low settings), but I don't expect to play anything other than solitare. This will pretty much be a media PC.

Due to the loss of a $50 mail in rebate, I had to work with the computer a little bit.

The Celeron D 351 is a little cheaper at another site than newegg.com, but due to their good service and reliability I decided a couple bucks won't hurt. I change the motherboard from an Intel to a comprable ASUS, saving about $15. Intels tend to run expensive...

Let me input on the whole rig:

Case - Enermaax Pandora $54.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811124113
CPU - Pentium 4 630 w/ HT and EM64T $179.00http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116198
Motherboard - ASUS P5S800 $53.25 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131521
Video card - ASUS GeForce 6200 $48.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121542
RAM - GSKILL 1GB (2x512MB) $89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231012
PSU - Codegen PS12V-400W $39.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817161006
DVD Drive - Samsung 16x $37.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151095
Hard drive - Seagate 160GB $74.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148021
Floppy - Sony 3.5" $9.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16821103116
TOTAL: $590.40 w/shipping

This, although more expensive, is a MUCH better computer. Less the GPU, but they don't game, remember? and the 7300 is a poor card. A pentium 4 will be much better with loading apps, and multitasking. A celeron and 512MB of RAM will be quite slower.
