Actually, what would be best, is get a TI-83 or 84 calculator (you probably already have one, it's required for most high school math classes). You can write programs in them and it's extremely simple.
+1 take ap computer science in hs... they will use java more likely. that's how i got started,.

learn html, then start to incorporate css. then java. use w3schools.com. that is, if you like the web. just think, all you do is code! the web browser "compiles" it for you!

It is tedious and time consuming, but when your really stuck on something and you finally figure out how to get it to work you get a really good feeling.

Whatever language you learn, get a good book to learn from. I have three different Java books and I switch back and forth between them because sometimes one doesn't explain something well enough as another one.

So, tl:dr, can anyone refer a web source or ebook where one can learn programming even if they have NO idea of the fundamentals? Like a 90 year old granny could learn and make a functional (useful) program just by following the steps and learning the fundamentals?

Thanks

Have you ever actually programmed or just used books? It is all in practice and learning how things work.

Bull shnikeys. Programming is one of my favorite hobbies.

It's up there with guitar and modding electronics and modding guitar electronics.

Huh? D'ya mean a kind of visual interface that makes coding quite basic?

I'm doing a bit of programming in my course at college and they're teaching us Visual Basic. It's actually pretty easy once you've got the hang of objects and their properties and what the hell you're supposed to do with them (I have a pretty good e-book if you're interested). Microsoft's Visual Studio has this thing called Intellisense which fixes your mistakes and gives you hints and prompts. It pretty much does things for you while giving you room to actually learn the languange.

I want to go into some kind of game design so I'm going to learn how to make some flash games over the summer to get the gist of physics and solid objects and the like. Then once I feel confident imma move onto C++. When I first thought that I wanted to get into programming I started with a C++ book and MY GAWD was it confusing.

Little steps, friend. Little steps.

I am 17 and I am learning, slow but learning. So I may not be the best person to give advice, but this is what I recommend:

First dual boot linux and play around with that for weeks/months learn how a os really works and how to script small programs and fully use terminal etc. This is of course if you don't already know how to do this. This really helped me understand what is going on when I program.

Second, I if you feel confident and want to go full out I recommend you jump right into C++. If you want to take things slow then go with Pearl, but that is my opinion. For material just search the web and read and watch everything you can. Also there are some good lesson on itunes U, my favorite is Programming methodology by Standford, but that is based on Java.

I second this. You may consider C# and XNA if you want to make games.
