XP to Windows 7??

Thread Starter
I have an old Dell that has a legal copy of XP on it but the mobo is dead. No hope in starting it at all.
I am in the process of building a whole new system.

my question is can i use that Dead Dell to get an operating system on my new build (it is not a dell at all, learned my lesson, building from components i picked out)

I do have the Product Key from it and would even be willing to buy the upgrade from XP to Windows 7.

can any1 help???

Nope. You can't do an in place upgrade from XP to 7. If you want to get 7, you'll need to buy a copy of 7. Sorry.

If you're willing to upgrade from XP to 7, then just go out and buy the 7 disk and install it.

You cannot re-use the XP key.
