Ok, so for high school graduation I came into some money, so I decided to make myself a computer for "college". I'm just looking at some opinions at to how good my build is sooo:

Case: CoolerMaster HAF 932

Processor: Intel i7-930 @ 4x2.8Ghz (probably going to overclock to 3.6-3.8)
Cooling: XIGMATEK Dark Knight 120mm CPU Cooling Fan System - H.D.T. (Heat-pipe direct touch)

Motherboard: ASUS P6T SE

Memory: 6Gb (3 x 2Gb) DDR3-1333 - Corsair XMS3 Dominator w/DHX technology

Video Card: 2x ATI Radeon HD 5870 - 1Gb - CrossFire
Cooling: Stock Fans

PSU: 850 Watt -- XFX Black Edition Power Supply - SLI Ready

Hard Drive: 1 TB - 64M Cache, 7200 RPM, 6.0Gb/s

OS: Windows 7 Home Edition, 64-bit

And some Thermal Compound of course to reduce heat, I feel like I have a pretty decent setup here.

Any suggestions, or comments on this, please as it is my first gaming computer build

Whats your budget?

Save a few bucks by going for the i7 920, then take that money a buy a better heatsink.

A Dark Knight is only good for ~3.6-3.7GHz (with HT on). For another 20-30 dollars you can be fairly confident of 4GHz from a 920 or 930.

Get some 1600Mhz RAM.

CoolerMaster HAF-X

That should come out to $1900. You can just downgrade to the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX to save $40. The difference is the FX runs 2 PCI-E lanes @ x16 x16, while the GX runs x16 x8. x8 is like 1 - 2% worse. The FX also is suppose to overclock better but, thats like whatever.

Also put the H50 in push/pull for better performance.

Eh, I've always been an Intel fan so i wouldn't know about the ATI processeors, any major differences?
Well, the 1090t brings 6 cores to the table first off. Then you have the ability to upgrade to Bulldozer in 2011 Q1.

The performance is pretty much the same as the 920. But, you get a lot less heat and power usage.

Plus the x4 965 performed better or the same as the 920 when it came to gaming, so the 1090t should one up that.

The HAF-X should be coming out very shortly here as well.

Change the RAM to dominator GT's. They apparently are much better for gaming. I was going to get the same RAM you have listed. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145269 I think they cool better than the ones you have posted. Bigger heat fins + fan.

Everything that a HDD would handle will increase. Install, boot, restart, turn off, and read/write times will increase dramatically. Programs and games will run better as well.

SSDs, especially the OCZ Vertex 2 is just a damn good choice.
