With 8 Gigs you may need more MCH and I would try bumping your cpu ref a notch and put 50 on the MCH skew.

Hello NoGuru,

Tell me what you are thinking for MCH, CPU Ref and MCH Skew (the last one is new to me)

Thanks for the input.

Update:

I ran small FFT's for about 4hrs and then it crashed the system. I am wondering if it is the heat though. That goofy core 1 hit 74C.

The only thing I changed to help get me that far was I did bump the Termination up to 1.3500.

I'm not sure that is what did it but that's all I changed on the last round.

Ok this is my 475 FSB settings
MCH skew is in advance clock settings 50 on MCH
LLC on
vcore 1.31
term 1.28
PLL 1.57
cpu ref normal
for your MCH I would go about 1.38
MCH ref .850

and set your cpu term to 1.20 then set your MCH ref, then set your CPU term back to whatever like 1.28 and the refs will scale.
Try it and you will see your ref scale to another #.

I'm going to try that now. Do you think it is the heat fighting me a bit? Baka has already told me it's fine and I believe him but that was before I hit 74C on that core. The others were around 65C.

By the way my ambient is 25C.

Till now it has been #2 crashing after about 10-15 minutes. Then I made the changes below and now it is #3 crashing after about 40 minutes.

All NEW changes are in RED

Advanced BIOS
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) = Disabled
CPU EIST Function = Disabled

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
Robust Graphics Booster = Auto
CPU Clock Ratio = 8
Fine CPU Clock Ratio = 0.5

CPU Frequency = 4.00

Standard Clock Control
CPU Host Clock Control = Enabled
CPU Host Frequency = 471
PCI Express Frequency = 100 Auto NOW 100
C.I.A.2 = Disabled

Performance Enhance = Standard
X.M.P = Disabled
MCH Frequency Latch = 400 Auto
System Memory Multiplier = 3.33D
Memory Frequency = 1333 - 1570

DRAM Timing Selectable = Manual

Standard Timing Control
CAS Latency Time = 7
tRCD = 8
tRP = 7
tRAS = 20
Motherboard Voltage Control
Load Line Calibration = Enabled

CPU
CPU Vcore = 1.24375 1.33750
CPU Termination = 1.220 1.300
CPU PLL = Auto
CPU Reference = 0.760V Auto

MCH/ICH
MCH Core = 1.160 1.180 1.340
MCH Reference = Auto
MCH/DRAM Ref = Auto
ICH I/O = 1.570V
ICH Core = 1.200V

DRAM
DRAM Voltage = 1.640V 1.66

You need to set PLL to something other than auto, to 1.50 or 1.57, it overvolts badly on auto. Also I wouldnt bother using the 3.33D, its borked and doesnt run at its rated speed. Its really a 3.00 so your ram is running at 1413 and not 1568, try using the 3.20B

Hello Hoss,

When I first put in the changes that NoGuru told me I couldn't get it to see the OC it kept going back to stock. I finally got that cleared up (I think I was just doing something wrong in sequence.).

Then I did take your advice and bumped the PPL up to 1.57. I also moved the Ram to the 3.20B slot which says it gives me 1507 as opposed to 1570 the 3.33D said it did.

I'm running small FFT again so we'll see how far this gets us.

I really appreciate you three helping me out. It would be easier on all of us if I had a better understanding of what exactly each setting does and how it relates to the others.

I have done alot of reading here on the forums but it seems that no-one really goes into what and why each setting does what it does.

So I'll just get on the job training.

NoGuru and Hoss,

I know you two are running the Q9650 but what kind of temps are you guys seeing at load and idle? Both of you are oc pretty damn good. I would like to get up there but the small wc I have now I just don't trust enough. I am getting a better wc setup so I can do just that though.

And again thanks for all the help...
