Motherboard Help

Thread Starter
Alright, so I have been out of the tech loop for a bit. Last time I was trying to upgrade, I wanted a foxconn bloodrage with the old 2.66 i7 processor, D0 stepping.

What is a good overclocking, DDR3, i7 motherboard that supports SLI? (I'm nvidia all the way, don't try to sway me)

Of the i7 processors, I see the 860 and the 930 for $200 at the local microcenter. Which is better? What is the stepping I am looking for now to reach a better overclock on air?

Ram, Powersupply, harddrive, and graphics card are already taken care of.

For the cpu heatsink, I'm thinking the megahalem. Thoughts?

I think that covers my bases. Thanks in advance!

the 860 and the 930 are different sockets. The i7 860 is socket 1156, and the 930 is socket 1366 and supports triple channel ram, the i7 860 1156 does not. That is, the 1366 socket needs 3 dimms to operate and they work in triple channel mode. Aside from that, both are quad core processors with hyperthreading. You want a DO stepping. And the mega is an awesome cooler.

Alright, so I want the 930, for triple channel support and D0 stepping is still the thing, sweet.

Now, what is the motherboard to match? As stated, I was looking at the foxconn bloodrage, but that is so last year. And I can't find it on newegg. What is an equivalent? I want it to be a good overclocker, something that will take me near 4.0ghz on air, if at all possible.

Rampage III looks sweet and looked to be getting good reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131642

P6X58D Premium and E version. (of course I had to throw my own board in)

Not a comprehensive list by any means but maybe to get you started.

Definitely a great place to get started, thanks a million man! I really want one of those bloodrage's, but I have no trader rep.

The rampage looks good, but it feels expensive compared to the bloodrage.

hmmm maybe I'm wrong but I don't think you have to have trader rep to buy, just to sell. The rampage is a little pricey and seems a bit over..... nevermind, no such thing.
