Well, I finally got 4.0GHz 200 bclk, 20 multi, 2000 C8 with the voltages in the image. Guess the updated bios helped out...but it runs a tad hotter than before. Not extensive testing as Ghostleader yet but just something to get started...After some more testing...trying to hit 4.2GHz.

I have been "following" an eBay seller that sells ES (Engineering Sample) versions of i7 980X processors in the hope that one day he would sell ES versions of the i7 875K. And today has 4 of those on sale, for $289 "only" ("cheap" for me from France: €225 vs €340 for a retail one).

(I am not posting the link as I'm not sure it's allowed on this forum, but it can be found easily.)

He claims they reach 4.5 GHz on air. He has excellent feedback (regarding ES processors too) so I tend to believe him. The description suggests proof is coming soon. Whether that's a stable frequency or just for benchmarks is not mentioned either.

Another thing that makes me think it's true is that a member of Overclock.net, Branen, reached 4.14 GHz at 1.288V with an ES version. Mine requires a lot more than that to be stable at that frequency, almost 1.4V if I remember correctly.

Also, even if it's not stable at 4.5 GHz, the fact that it even boots at this speed is a good sign as mine throws a BSoD no matter what voltage I set (I went up to 1.5V), with or without HT.

So, what do you think? Would you buy it?
(I couldn't resist and went ahead anyway, so I'll keep you posted.)

I would like to get to 4.0 ghz with a 875k with a asus p7p55d e-pro, a corsair h50 cooler and a cooler master sniper case. Is that possible? If so can someone give me the specific setup?
Thanks.

It depends on your room temperatures.

I would start with :1.35vcore, 1.31vtt

The seller in question was surprisingly responsive and honest : he admitted having tested them, they only reached 4.4 GHz so he updated the item description to mention 4.3 Ghz instead of 4.5.
(And eventually I didn't buy one as it obviously wasn't that good after all.)

I meant the setup of airflow and choosing between the h50 and h70. Should I run in push/pull as intake or exhaust? Mount it in rear or front drive bay? How should I configure the rest of the fans in tge sniper case?

People will suggest that you have the radiator in the front of the case, pulling air in so that cold air will run through the radiator, but personally, I would have it as an exhaust at the back. This will, you'll be blowing the hot radiator air out of the case while also blowing cold air at it.

Anyone know how I could run the intel i7 875k to 4.0ghz or more with an effective 8gb of ram running at DDR3 at 1600mhz under load for 10+ hours stable with my setup?

Intel i7 875k 2.93ghz - CPU
Asus p7p55d e-pro- motherboard
Asus non-reference v2 ati radeon 5870- gpu
G Skill 8gb 1600mhz 6 latency 4x2gb - ram
Corsair H70 push/pull as rear exhaust
Cooler Master Storm Sniper case with 1-2 extra 120mm intake fans at front/top (5.25 drive bay). And 1 extra 120mm intake fan at very bottom facing up.
Corsair HX 850w - psu
Intel x-25 ssd 80gb - primary drive
Western digital caviar blue 500 gb 7,200 rpm HD - storage drive
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit - OS
Samsung PX2370 23" led/LCD 1920x1080 resolution - monitor

Hi Guys,
Newbie to OCN

Hope my sig's working, so I don't have to list everything twice...

I managed to get my 875 to 4.06 with all green options ON, including Vcore reduction. It is idling @ 1.35GHz@0.87V

Memory Level Up 1800 (ie Bclk@150)
Multi 20
Turbo +7
Volts auto

The thing is not to go above BClk150 otherwise Vcore reduction stops working. Yeah, it's odd...
