can you explain why that guide says to use 1.2pch volts? Everyone I've asked in xtremesystems, here, and I think hardocp say thats too much even for multi gpu. I'm referring to this
"PCH is easy, if you are running a single PCIe card (graphics card), you should do fine with the default PCH, if you are running two or more PCIe graphics cards I’d suggest increasing the PCH to 1.2V."
The PCH or platform controller hub is the P55 chip on the motherboard and is responsible for all communication from the CPU to devices on the motherboard other than the memory and the PCIe graphics cards. And I still need to modify that section because the statement only really applies to X58....sorry.

However a little extra PCH voltage can be a bit helpful when trying to get extreme bclocks stable (220MHz+).

edit - fixed, thanks

Only sticky we have in the Intel CPU section here at OCN is the Intel CPU Essentials Collected Guides.

If you want it in there you have to PM Robilar for a approval.

I think you have to redo them and not link to another site though.

Nice guide by the way

Thanks again for the great advice everyone! I am planning to OC my machine to somewhere between 3.7-4ghz. Would you think the A70 Corsair fan would be good enough to do the job, or should I look at different alternatives. I was eyeing up the fan by noctua, or maybe trying the watercooling of the H50 or H70. Just want to keep it stable. I normally keep my place rather cool/cold 80% of the time. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks man....we've already been in contact with the admins here, they were positive about the idea of a sticky, but I think their waiting to see if the coomunity likes the guide before they commit.

This isn't spam IMO, because I did these voluntarily to help out the overclocking community....I'm not profiting

Temps are a bit better, but it is still running at 27c idle BUT the load under LinX is around 68-69c, so that is better.

I think a new cooler might be in order later on, but for now I'll take what I got and leave it. The first time I definitely applied too little TIM and there was a lot of places that air was probably getting in. This time I stuck to the method in the link in my above post and I believe that it was the best way to apply on a HDT cooler.

If I get a new cooler this holiday, It'll be either a higher end air cooler or something like an H50/H70 or the ALC from CoolIT.

Not sure if its worth it to go beyond what I have with my OC now since the temps will still probably be too high.
At least your cores are close to each other. Core 1 and 2 are 7-8C apart for me .

Interesting you should say that since my core 1 and 2 are usually within a few degrees at idle and load, but core 3 idles about 5 degrees higher, but under load it is consistent with all four on average. Idk, but its still safe nonetheless.

Silver Arrow (I almost wrote Airrow) is on the top of the heap ATM. The Noctua NH-D14 is right behind, followed closely by the VX and the Megahalems. In any particular review you will see various of these on top. But expect very good cooling from the Arrow and the D14 with little noise.

I bought the D14 before the Arrow was out. I could use GT AP-15's on it, but the AP-14's are good enough, and quieter. I could gets even better cooling with one or two 38mm fans. The options are so varied. The Arrow will even fit a 38mm fan in the middle. This would tend to muffle a San Ace -H1011 a bit and still give great results - good enough to cool and 875k at 4GHz.

As for the H70, you'll have to track down comparative reviews. From what I've seen it ranges from the Tt Frio / Mugen 2 level to the VX/Megahalems level. Others will disagree.

Now, I have a question of you:

You have a GA-P55A-UD4P. I just wrote to Gigabyte's [sarcasm]stellar[/sarcasm]tech support site to ask them about adjusting the Turbo boost the way Ghost Leader does. I even gave them a link to GL's post where he explains it. I got a non-responsive response.

So, what BIOS version are you using, and can you adjust the Turbo Boost multiplier?

I would test it myself but I am loath to break up a really nice heatsink/cpu/mb seating just now.

Yeah, you´re right the new 71 bios version should have a simillary feature as Asus, I have to give it a try later on.

You got a really nice rig and it should serve you good for a while, have any pics of it?

BTW, nice loop you have, I imagine it´s a real pleasure to have that 480 under water, less noice or what

@ehume

You should contact Lsdmeasap, he is the Gigabyte guru, he should know if there´s a such feature available for the Gigabyte P55 board, throw him a PM.

You can also try to post a thread about it over at Tweak town Gigabyte Forum., he is the Gigabyte section moderator over there.

Ehume ~

Thanks for your input!! I really appreciate it. I have not built the pc yet. I am currently waiting for everything to come in and to purchase. Just wanted to make sure I got the best bang for my buck. I am actually now thinking about going 2x gtx 460s since they went down in price. They are 165ish now, which is a great deal.
