I must suck at overclocking - Page 4

yeah i would change the psu, the TDP changes drastically when you overclock a lot with a lot of volts. and 350w+sparkle does not bode well

Maybe because he didn't read through enough of OCN, or payed attention to the wrong people.

Look here OP, Going over 1.55V is a death sentence for your CPU. Take it down or it will burn itself out.
If you want a higher overclock, buy a better heatsink and a bigger PSU. There's no way around it.
I guess I'll just leave it where it is, maybe put it back to stock until I can find a way to make money.

And yeah, I guess I don't know as much as I thought. If anyone could recommend good threads/sites to increase my knowledge, I'd much appreciate it.

and this
overclocking can be a pretty expensive hobby, it took me 2 years to pay for half of my PC. then 2 more months for my fan!
and another tip, when overclocking, always check the maximum volts for the cpu and max temps so that if it gets to those limits you could save yourself.
like i said, 1.55v is the limit!

3.4ghz in your first screenshot is probably the sweetspot, especially when you're using the stock cooler.

Put everything back to stock. Not going to touch it again until I've done some major upgrading and studying.

3.4 ghz is fine
for gaming. ocing cpu don't do a lot. Maybe get a new cooler for the card. but even then it wouldn't be too worth it unless the card has lots of ocing potential

In my experience speedfan uses the socket temp sensor whereas coretemp actually reads the core sensors of the CPU.
Aside from that I never liked that with speedfan it would just give you generic descriptions such as: Temp1, Temp 2, etc. That doesn't really help much. At that point you're guessing what component temperature you're reading.

I only use coretemp to monitor the CPU and use Everst ultimate to monitor most everything else.
