LMAO at some people in this thread
"DUde, Get dual i7 980x's on an EVGA SR2 and then buy 4 GTX 480's! to max out BC2!!!"

OP: I would say get this XFX 5850 and it's a done deal for BC2

you will never pull 60fps on a 32 player match online with a dual core.
Again, not true.

I just joined a full 32 player rush server, same settings as before.. Everything maxed 16xAF, 8xAA etc with bloom and HBAO disabled.

Min Max Avg
39 105 65.570

I actually got more FPS than in the 16 man squad rush server

There was plenty of explosions etc too, damn M2 spammers.

Who actually plays online competitively with 16xAF and 8xAA anyway? When I play seriously I play in DX9 with undergrowth and a couple of other things set to low with textures etc set to high.

do you?

i find it funny that you would even compare your computer with his, when it is using a completely different cpu design.

What you get with an entire different design means nothing to the OP.

You pretty much said any dual core, hyper-threading or not, it's a dual core.

Just because I kinda proved you wrong you are back tracking slightly.

enough of us hijacking the OP's thread though eh

Maybe, but you have not helped in the slightest, you simply sit here and troll.

he is asking for the best way to improve performance, with little cost. he cannot possibly upgrade to an i3. he can upgrade to a quad core without a motherboard change, which will do him more than an gpu he can buy.

you coming in here and saying dual cores do fine, when you have an i3 means jack. you are spreading misinformation, causing the OP, or other members to make bad choices in the products they will be purchasing.

Actually I suggested he gets a 5850, then I seen you going on about how any dual core can't pull 60FPS in BFBC2 so I fired up BFBC2 and proved you wrong. Also you say that it needs a dedicated core for the sound only!? Which I can't prove you wrong on but tbh sounds ridiculous. All you have done is state your opinion and not back it up.

My comments were not aimed at the OP but at you, hence me saying lets stop this hijacking

I apologise to the OP if my comments mislead him but that was not my intention, you're just trying to make me look like an ass now.

i know from personal experience.

i owned an e8400 and gtx 260. I got decent playable framerates in dx10 with the 260. i have since upgraded to a q9550 and 5870. while i was waiting for my 5870 to come in. i played with the q9550, my framerates nearly doubled with just the cpu change. when i put my 5870 in, framerates barely changed, but i was able to max everything out with no change in fps.

The sound comment is straight from the developers. They designed a sound engine that mixes itself for the game. it is not compatible with current sound cards, so everything is done on the Cpu, and it is a resource hog, which is why there is a drastic jump from 2 cores to 3 cores, because the sound processing gets its own thread to play in.
