I compared them on newegg but I am not sure why Gigabyte's mobo cost 30 more bucks. Other than integrated graphics?
There are differences under the hood. Gigabyte board has a integrated graphics and a hotter chipset which leads to more expensive cooling. G also has more phases to power the CPU and the famous 2oz of copper on the PCB. While all these are nice to have specially if you OC a 130W PhII x6, on a 95W PhII X4 they make less of a difference. It's also likely that the G board OCs your CPU some 100-200MHz higher (under 3% performance boost).

They aren't that much cheaper than a new board and CPU. If the 955 X4 is a C3 my take is maybe yes, maybe no (depending how the CPU was cooled/OCed). If the CPU is a C2 revision, then no.

He said the 955 is OC to 3.9Ghz stable. didn't mention cooling but he said he didn't attempt any higher. It is a C3. I think I am going to buy it. Motherboard, I might just buy new Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H just to be safe and get warranty.
