OC on M4A79XTD Evo

Thread Starter
Hi, i am overclocking a 1090T BE on this board and everything is fine except something i just dont get.

The multiplyer seems to be randomly jumping around when monitored in windows from 19 when under load to 8 idle.

The obvious stuff like cool and quiet are disabled in bios and ive been through the windows power settings with a fine comb.

what am i missing here?

I have this board as well and from what I understand there is a hardware version of Cool and Quiet that still will work even if you disable C1E and C&Q and Core Boost in bios.

AMD has a feature similar to Intel's Speedstep called Cool 'N' Quiet. This will reduce the CPU multiplier and voltage when the system is in an idle state to reduce power consumption and heat on the CPU. In the BIOS you can just disable Cool 'N' Quiet and the C1E function as Sousapro stated so that the multi doesn't change.

so its not that.

Seems like there is something else lurking as Sousapro suggests.

Oops... at work and skimmed through a little too quickly

The only hardware options in the BIOS would be cool 'n' quiet, C1E and possibly thermal monitoring. C1E is effectively the same as cool 'n' quiet so they should both be disabled. Core boost shouldn't be the issue as that is like Intel's Turbo mode on i7's. When using single threaded apps it will reduce the power on the unused cores and boost the frequency on the core being stressed. Unless CPU-Z just isn't reading correctly due to the core boost feature and erroneously reporting a drop in multiplier.

The thermal monitoring option in the BIOS enables the system to shut down the CPU if too a high a temperature is being reached, so that shouldn't really be the issue either.

From what I understand, baked into Thuban is a hardware based Cool and Quiet that we can't control... so it will still change multipliers back and forth but it won't send your vCore into spasms like normal C&Q or Core Boost
