Dual core processors... Why not video cards?

Why arn't we seeing ATI or Nvidia make a dual core video card... That would be so sweet! No more need for SLI, or you could SLI them and have 1 core do a quarter of the screen!

Twould be, But i think one of the problems would be you would have to have them all clocked EXACTLY the same otherwise you would see weird things come up on your screen.

Actually, Gigabyte did two dual core GPUs: one using two 6600GTs and another using two 6800GTs. Asus made one using two 7800GTs, but I can't find them anywhere for sale.

its not dual core... its dual gpus... and gigabyte made two 6600*2 (256MB) cards... one came with a mobo... and also one with 6800gt*2 (512MB)...
asus also made one with 6800gt*2 (512MB) and one with 7800gt*2 (512MB)... but gainward also made one with 6800gt*2 (512MB) but also one with 6800ultra*2 (512MB)... but finaly MSI made the ultimate card! 6800ultra*2 (1GB)!!!

They have been making "Multi-cores" for years. Ever hear of pixel pipelines? Essentially these are multiple "cores".

I'm talking like a Pentium D dual core, not slapping two cards onto one.

SLi support 2 GPUs (not two cards!) so if you got a single card with 2 GPUs you need to turn on the SLi feature... but now we know that SLi can support 4 GPUs! (Quad SLi) so you can use 4 single GPU cards or... 2 Dual GPU cards...
you cant use 8 GPUs...
