Air Cooling Advice

Thread Starter
I'm new to OCing but not to custom comp builds. Aside from a planned SSD upgrade to my box, I want to do some light to mid OCing on air. My specs are below. What's the concensus for good aftermarket air coolers that will clear my eiffel tower dominators? Also, i have 1 120mm case fan going in, 1 going out, a 90mm going out, and the big 120mm out on the corsair PSU. Any recommendations for case air? My next rig will be WC, but i need to keep this baby going for a while on a small budget.

Thanks!

Your case airflow is probably fine with that fan setup, but if youre looking to overclock, the main deciding factor in how high you can overclock is the CPU heatsink, not the casefans.

You can get a cheaper 30$ that wont overclock too high.. itll probably put you around 3.7ghz or so, but with an h50 you can probably hit 4.3 or so.

30$ cooler: http://www.avadirect.com/product_det...asp?PRID=17542

80$ H50: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835181010

If just light/Mild overclocking then a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is an excellent choice. If doing 4ghz+ then I'd look at a Prolimatech megahalem, Thermalright Venomous X or a Titan Fenrir.

Looking at your CPU, can the AMD 6400+ even overclock past 3.5Ghz?
I thought that these CPU's weren't very good overclockers.

Anywho, if you want a good CPU cooler, you can buy the Scythe Mugen 2 or the Dark Knight. (Sorry the Mugen 2 isn't on Newegg anymore.)
Both are extremely good for their pricing.

Personally, I have the Mugen 2 and it cools my CPU very well. (Idle 35 | Load 54) The problem is that it is very big, but if it fits in your case then I'd get it.

I wouldn't get the Dark Knight for AMD because you would have to mount it vertical unless you buy an accessory. (Forgot what it was called )

I'm probably going with the Cooler Master. The H50 looks rad, but my next full build will be a true WC rig, so I will wait on that...

Thanks for the quick replies!
