Missing Xeon on Game server

Thread Starter
A few days ago, I bought a dual quad core xeon server from a GSP.

It's all good, until today, I only see 4 processor threads in task manager instead of 8. I open device manager, and it only shows 4 cores, instead of 8.

So, one of the Quad cores has been either removed or disabled in BIOS or something.

I opened a support ticket with the GSP. Their reply was: "hi it was just a setting we changed"

.....?

So now what? I'm missing a xeon from my server, and the GSP isn't very informative as to where it's gone.

What do you guys think?

Open up Device Manager.... How many "Processors" are listed?

Also, did you pay for 8 physical cores or 8 virtual cores?
Once again...

Erm...have you checked that there is another Xeon CPU physically in the server ? Are you able to ?

That is the first port of call to actually make sure there is another one in the system.

It listed 8 Intel Xeon E5345's the first time I checked it.
Now it only lists 4 of them.

I assume it was 8 physical cores, it said "2x Intel Xeon Quad Core" when I bought it.

Enterprise - I can't physically check it myself, its miles away from me.

I've emailed the GSP again to ask for more specific details as to what "settings" were changed.

How much RAM is reported and how much did you have before?

This is a hardware change. Nothing Setting wise. If you had 8 cores before then you should have 8 cores now. A setting change would not do this unless they disabled the Second CPU via the BIOS which constitute as a settings change.
