Any minute now they'll test it while swimming. Breaking news: Water is an iPhone killer. Wicked good journalism.

Nah vdek buys all his Apple hardware, he loves Apple and I can't blame him, I even have respect for him, he's like the only one of a bunch of Apple lovers who dares to challenge OCN's Apple hating attitude.

I had dropped my 1st Gen iPhone a few dozen times before the screen finally cracked on it.

Regardless, any screen will crack if you try hard enough. Plastic screens tend to have better impact resistance, however they scratch really easily due to the lack of hardness and don't feel as good on a touch interface(last point is imo).

Unfortunately there is no magic material which has sufficient hardness to resist the formation of scratches by common materials and which also has enough toughness to avoid fracturing under common shocks(Such as falling 6ft onto pavement). Usually materials which are hard tend to be brittle (easily fractured) and materials which are ductile tend to be soft(easily scratched).
can they make diamond screens?

Haha, I guess thats why they made bumpers. I'm going to have to check that the next train and helicopter I get in has Apple made bumpers, just so if it hits anything it doesn't shatter.

I don't even have much Apple hardware! I've got a pass me down iMac which I use for app development and my iPad. Besides that, I've got my sig rig, another rig with a Q6600, my iPaq, my Palm Pre, my soon to be HTC EVO, and I'm probably going to snag an Android Tablet when they become available too!

k well, because we're so damn precise on terminology here - I've yet to get a scratch on my iPhone and probably never will with the Invisible Shield on it.

Happy? I didn't use either term just to make you happy.
Sorry I didn't go researching on the technical difference between Scratch Proof and Scratch Resistance, even though it changes nothing I've said before.
