While the Nvidia cards are better then ATi's offerings at tessellation, even they aren't performing at playable frames with visuals cranked up. This generation of Nvidia GPU's still won't be strong enough to really handle tessellation like so many people thought. I've seen the benchmarks in various tests and 18-25 fps is not that great.

At what point do you stop and consider that instead of leveling the playing field you're just dumbing down one product so that you can feel better about your own?
And how many games use phsyx? How many in the next 18 months will use it? And does it really make that big of a difference.
Not many, not many and no.

We prefer the things we own over the things we don't because we made rational choices when we bought them. The Truth? The truth is that you prefer the things you own because you rationalize your past choices to protect your sense of self. Both GPU manufactures make good GPU's, with Eyefinity being the most popular feature of both companies.

Although I do like that Nvidia guys are really starting to crank some power out of thier cards, it was pretty bad watching a $400 GPU eat a $500 GPU. The 470 and 465 are finally justifying thier pricing and its good compition to get ATi's wheels rolling again.

The 470 undoubtably beats the 5850 by two frames or so- no denying it, but it's not up to the standards of a 5870.

The 470 was better than the 5850 before the performance drivers

470s do well against crossfire 5870 here's a link from an ati user who did the test here at OCN

http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/7145...sli-vs-hd.html

The 470s are pretty nice

ive had both 5870 crossfire and 470 sli, and 480 sli, gtx 470's overclocked are faster than 5870 @ 1ghz, the gtx 470 @ 800mhz beats the 5870, and beats the stock gtx 480 by a hair. Best bang for the buck is the GTX 470 hands down.

IDK what the fuss is really.

If performance is
480>5870>470>5850
Then the cards are priced correctly:
500>400>350>300

To me it comes down to what you want to spend and what features are important to you.

If money is not an option, buy the most expensive one.
If folding and PhysX is important to you, buy NVIDIA.
If money is tight, buy the cheapest one.
If you want to do eyefinity, buy ATI.
If your mobo is SLI, buy accordingly. (Same with Crossfire)

Example: If it was me, I would get 5850 bc I am cheap as hell, I don't have large resolution, and I have a Crossfire mobo.
