Hia i am new to this board.

I have recently bought a Q8300 cpu for my pc. but i have a problem when i fitted the chip the pc would not boot up. so i contacted asrock and they said i needed the updated bios so i downloaded it and installed it.

The computer boots great! but then at stock levels the OS crashes and will not start and comes up with NTOSKRNL.EXE missing or currupt status OXC0000221

i managed to get the computer working but instead of the chip being a 2.5 it is down to 2.1.

it is driving me nuts lol

8 GB ram
500W OCZ power supply
pcie graphics
2 sata HDD
1 IDE HDD
sata DVD writer

any help would be great

Thanx

Daen

The fact that the CPU runs fine at 2.1 but not 2.5 leads me to think that your BIOS auto-set the CPU voltage too low. According to this spec page, the default VID can go up to 1.3625V.

Also What kind of RAM do you have? What speed is at running at? Tweaking RAM voltage/timings might help a bit.

we can boot the computer if we set the fsb to 300

if we set it at the stock 333 we get the error saying failed to vertify digital signature of file 'ntoskrnl.exe' also trying to run the windows installer results in the same error but with bootldr.exe

setting the fsb to 310 allowed the system to boot, but would crash randomly

320 bluescreened during boot

tried setting it at 323 & 324 but bios goes a bit crazy you can only see the time going up when you get into the bios and the rest of the screen is blank, also the bios screen just shows lots of lines with bits of info about the drives detected scattered around

no problems with the previous e5200 chip

one more thing, when setting the memory to run at 400mhz, seems unable to boot, setting it at 333 seems fine, the max voltage I can set the memory to in the bios is 2.04 which didn't seem to cure the problem

ram is 8 gb PC2-6400 400mhz but the dram freq is 200 mhz

Note Your board Operates in 1333 in overclock mode PAGE
Meaning you probably have to set voltages to your NB set memory Speeds You might look into a different board... The reason why your processor might be running at 2.1 it might be downclocking to 1066 which is your MAX stock speed.

If you're stuck with that board, you are going to have to fiddle with it a bit.

Also try using 4Gigs of ram or even 2 gigs of ram.
i noticed the board itself saying that you might have problems if you use more than 4

Thanx for the help. i would like to play around with this board for the moment to try and get it working if not i will get a new one but at the min i cant afford. i will try it with only 4 gb ram and will see what i get from there. would u have an idea of the voltage settings i would need for it to work properly???

Thanx anyway what boards would you recommend for future reference.
