Yea, I mean the thermal paste that comes with the stock cooler should work, but it won't be the best. I always wipe off the stock stuff and put on some aftermarket thermal paste. If you wan't the best cooling efficiency, grab some ocz freeze or something along those lines (I'm not too up to date with the best TIM at the moment).

ic diamond 24 is the best, but read this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/cooling-experiments/453054-ic-diamond-7-vs-shin-etsu.html

so if you were to buy thermal paste and wanted to have awesome paste get shin etsu or ic diamond 24

If this is your first build, I would say you don't need to buy separate thermal material, the one included in the stock heat sink will work fine.

If you start getting into overclocking the CPU then you would need new heat sink all together.

Do you plan to overclock your CPU?

I've always used OCZ Freeze seeing as i think it's pretty easy to apply. In regards to the OP it's extremely important that you use the thermal paste that comes with the stock cooler unless you have quality paste to replace it with.

Here is a decent run down of what it is and how to use it.

the stripes are pre-applied strips of thermal paste. You're good to go.

Yep, those shinny stripes are the pre-applied thermal paste. You don't need to buy extra paste for this build.

But you should overclock, cause then you'll be one step closer to manliness
