I'd go for some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro/80's. They're outstanding and are great for gaming and music alike.

Modded Sennheiser HD555s hands down, I know they seem overrated but I've been through tons of cans in my life, used very high end ones and I have to say the 555s (and even the lower end 212pro) are the best range, lowest distortion, crisp high, deep bass (esp. the 555s).

The 555s are the same drivers has the HD595 so don't buy those, the only difference is the 555s come with a piece of foam to muffle the drivers, all you have to do is open each can down to the speaker and remove the foam and bam cleaner sound. Don't forget it takes headphones quite a few (hundred) hours to fully break in.

EDIT: I know you said headset, most of us high end headphone users use desk microphones or shirt mounted ones you can get from newegg. You're not really going to find "Audiophile" sound quality from a headset.

Beyerdynamic DT990 are the best headphones you're going to get. They're $180 or so.

The 2nd runner up would be Grado Prestige Series SR225i but these are extremely uncomfortable and don't have very good bass.

Highly suggest the DT990s. They're awesome. Rainbows will shoot out of your ears

I agree with the Beyerdynamic suggestions but will add the Shure SRH-840, Denon D2000, and Ultrasone HFI-780. I don't want to look like I'm just suggesting what I own; I have heard all of the above and the DT's. Since we are also considering gaming, I will rank these on comfort. I think the Beyer's and Denons come out on top, the difference being clamping force which is stronger on the Beyer's. I really want to tell you to listen first, but I'm sure you'll be satisfied if you follow the general consensus in this thread.
