If you see flashes or oddly colored pixels and such, it is artifacting and may be considered unstable. Depends on your definition. Personally I want NO artifacting at all, but some are ok with it if the artifacting does not show up or negligibly in games.

I don't think I've ever run a GPU at stock clocks past the first day I owned it. And that's with about 20 different gfx cards over the past 10 years. Never had a gfx card die either (unless I physically volt-modded it, like, by putting solder on the board). Of course, I tend to replace them pretty regularly, so.

Generally speaking though OC'ing alone w/o modding voltages really won't damage your card in any way as long as it's stable and running cool enough (i.e. not at like 95C+ for extended periods).
