First time build 2 computers help/thoughts 980x

Hey brand new computer geek. Making my first build for my self and pop, can't wait! Here is the plan:

Pop's
I7 980x Extreme 3.33 Ghz
ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series 6GB 1333 Mhz
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec TPQ-1200 1200W power supply
SAPPHIRE 100280SR Radeon HD 5970
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM Hard drive
ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise Blue LED CPU Cooler

Not being an environmental geologist like my father I am going with a slightly more modest build for myself.
Intel Core i5-655K Clarkdale 3.2GHz
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD7 LGA 1156 Intel P55
Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series 6GB 1333 Mhz
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec TPQ-1200 1200W power supply
Radeon HD 5850
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM Hard drive
ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise Blue LED CPU Cooler

First question is about the RAM the processors seem to default the memory to 1066 is it worth it going up to 1333. Will it effect overclocking if I only get 1066. Any legit articles on this?

Second, any compatibility issues I should be concerned with?

Will this work I'm a bit nervous being my first time.

Thanks!

They look good to me. I'm not sure about the Zalman cpu cooler but the rest looks good to me.

Does your dad really need a 5970?
I'd change the cooler and change the hdd to a F3

No I don't think he does, but he probb. doesn't need a 980 either. He was going to get 2 5870's but it's 300 less for 1 5970 and almost as good, plus leaves room for expansion later. What are your thoughts on a cooler? We have decided against water cooling since we really don't want water inside our case. Great point about F3 I will research and see.

For your both rig's, get some 1600Mhz RAM, please, it is almost essential for a good overclock, also, get a better cooler. As for the PSU's 1200w is overkill, a SeaSonic X750 Gold MIGHT suffice.
EDIT: Watercooling is completely safe, (if you're not stupid and remember to use tubing) there's nothing to worry about with water in your case.

Great save! Is there a big difference between dual and tri channel memory?

Nice power supply, but you don't need 1200w even for crossfire. You also don't need a 1200w for the second one. They also don't have 5950s yet.
