First time build 2 computers help/thoughts 980x - Page 2

You DEFINITELY don't need 1200w for either of these rigs. Your dads rig will do fine with a 1000w and still provide enough power for another 5970 down the road. Your rig would do fine with my sig rig PSU and you will still have enough power to do crossfire and maybe even tri-fire since this PSU has no trouble pushing ~900w.

1156 or theP55 don't utilize the triple channel bandwidth therefore getting triple channel memory will be a waste on your setup. 1200watt psu is overkill for your rig, especially if you're not planning any crossfiring later on. A 750-850watt psu should suffice

Yeah big difference dude

Tri channel is for the x58 chipset, i7 are the only CPU at the mo that supports it

Dual channel is for everything else basically
You will need a dual channel kit for your p55, I recomend going for a 1600MH kit if you are thinking of overclocking, somthing like the corsair dominator 4Gb kit.

For cooling I would go with a venomousX with two fans in push/pull

Also, I think the mobo your dad is getting is an E-atx board, basically bigger than normal.
I don't think the case you have chosen would house that size or board, if I am wrong som1 please correct me.

If that is the case, you will need a bigger one, somthing like the haf 932.
And tbh, the antec 900 is oldschool now, maybe go for a 900-2 or 1200

I kno its a lot to take in, but I hope it helps you dude

Just ask anything you need to kno and we will try and help

Yeah your dads mobo is an E-atx size board.
You are going to need a bigger case for him than what you picked.

A few good cases are

Coolermaster HAF (high air flow) 932

Coolermaster ATCS 840

Corsair 800D

That's just a few of the many cases that can house a E-atx board.

Instead of getting two 1200w power supplys, get a 850w for your dad and a 750w for yourself.
That will be ample for your pc specs.

Hope that helps

Change that case to a CM 690 II for yours and you will get much more for your money. The 900 is great but the 690 is amazing for how cheap it is.
