I'm an indecisive sphincter

Thread Starter
Alright, 1st off, I'm new and wasn't completely sure where to put this. @_@

2nd: I wanted to know, in the future should I keep my 9800 GT and stay on course with nvidia? Or should I switch to ATI?

I was wondering because, well, I'm kind-of a tightwad, and ATI's supposed to be cheaper right? That and the motherboards I've seen all look nicer when they're geared toward ATI.

Helpness? @_@

That would depend on what you intend to do with your machine, but there are presently a crop of applications which use CUDA for acceleration, and that's only nVidia (which ticks me off).

Not that I don't like nVidia, but that CUDA is proprietary, and the developers COULD have chosen to accelerate using methods that work on most GPU hardware from nVidia or ATI.

So, what do you intend to use it for?

then yeah ati is the way to go. If it's not extremely demanding gaming, then a 5770 is probably great for you. Cheap ($160ish) and great performance from what I've seen. If you think you need a little more firepower, the 5850 is really hard to beat performance/price. Love mine

EDIT: Also, pretty much all of these cards overclock extremely well even on the stock coolers.

ati is currently leading the price/ performace area.

whats your budget? if you tell us we can make recommendations

If it's just for games, ATi is your best bet. The two sweet spot cards at the moment are the HD5770 and the HD5850. Get whichever of the two suits your budget. Happy gaming!

Indeed DX11 support from those ATI cards gives you future proofing w/o spending $400-$500 on a 4xx nVidia card.

A reference 5850 with voltage control is the best price/performance gaming card around. OC it to 5870 specs easily and crossfire them later for a supreme gaming experience. Cool and fast. Can't go wrong.
