Hard Drive freezes/locks up after moderate usage in Win 7

Hi Guys, I'm running into a bit of a problem with my Western Digital Blue 640GB HD.

I got this drive new from WD almost 2 months ago after one of my 500's failed.

Until recently as of 2 weeks ago the hard drive acts like its locking up.

Here's what it's doing, if I finish playing games for a certain period of time like counter strike source, do a render in vegas or install a program the hard drive led stays constantly lit and win 7 just completely freezes (cant move mouse cursor, open start menu or get task manager open). Sometimes it unfreezes but it stays lit so much that I am forced to manually restart. This problem also happens whenever I try running any kind of installer.

I've tried reformating twice now thinking it was a software I've had loaded or just a driver problem but the problem persists. I scanned the drive with the Western Digital data life guard tools and had it run short and extended tests and I receive a pass for each one and S.M.A.R.T says the drive is fine.

I've tried killdisking the drive in low format last night and just ran Win 7 without anything loaded and tried installing firefox only to result with the same problem. At first I thought the CPU was overheating so I blew the dust out of the heatsink as well as every other component, reseated the heatsink with new cooling paste and ran memtest86 thinking it was the RAM but everything passed. There's no clicking noises from the drive itself and when installing Winodws 7 it doesn't freeze in the set up or anything. I'm pretty much bewildered at this point and running out of ideas on what to do. So should I RMA the hard drive?

I'm testing my old 250 GB with XP in here and so far it's not running into issues but I won't know until I try Win 7 on this and see if I run into the same thing.

Have you tried changing the power options to see if that could be the problem? I wonder if w7 is prematurely is putting your hd to sleep, or it could just be your hd.

My current plan is High Performance and the hard drive is set to stay awake and not go into hibernation/sleep.
