Free Cluster Access for OCN! - Page 3

i find it ironic that EVERYONE and their mom thinks/wants this thing to fold. They have no obvious understanding of a cluster or what it does.

I personally would like to do something like this to help unload some of the workload of rendering hd video, however because of bandwidth limitations it will have to be via a local machine, nothing over the internet's

I hope someone finds some use out of this, out of curiosity what is the data storage capabilities?

Rainbow tables? XD

Since it's diskless I haven't really looked into massive disk storage. Technically you could run 2x1.5TB on every node giving you like 30 some TB. But I don't see a need at this point, and I would have to buy the HDDs myself lol.

Don't be too hard on people interested in folding on it lol. F@H is indeed a cluster app, but only from the perspective of Stanford, and not from the perspective of the user. But nonetheless I will get it to fold, and I'll put the stats up on the webpage.

oh yes do not for a second believe i am against folding, last i checked i was in the top 1400

i am more curious with what the CURRENT data storage is, im weird and curious about the little non important details

Currently no nodes have non-volatile storage, just 1gb of RAM. The headnode has a 160GB drive cut in 3 partitions: swap, /, and /home which are all EXT4.

When the nodes boot, they connect to the headnode's NFS, which serves their OS, and programs, basically their '/'. Then once they are fully up, they connect to the headnode's NFS share for /home so that all your programs can be accessed from the nodes for parallel execution.

What is really cool about this, it that if I want to update the node software to the latest builds, I just chroot into the NFS folder and apt-get upgrade. Then poof! All the nodes are magically upgraded all at once, no need for reboot even. Even if I reboot the headnode, the nodes will automatically reconnect the shares when it comes back up. Very handy!

Hello x-ravin, I cannot wait to try out your cluster, I want to try out some parallel programs that I have been writing for practice.. and I would like to get access, but every time I try to PM you, I get a message saying that I don't have sufficient privileges to do so, any idea why?

I have no clue, that's wierd. The cluster is currently down, I blew the breaker it was on and I'm looking to relocate to a room with a few 25 amp drops. I'll let you know when I'm back up!

problem is that you are too new to OCN to have PM privileges.

@xravin very sweet! If I knew what half the stuff you were talking about was that would be even cooler! :
