XP wont install!!! - Page 3

Why are you trying to run Windows XP on that rig anyway? You've got 4GB of RAM and an 896MB video card. Not to mention whatever other add on cards you're using. You'll be LUCKY to use 2GB of your RAM.

OP, make sure you are using the Intel SATA (the red SATA ports) and not the orange and white SATA ports on the motherboard.

And have you run the RAID matrix manager by hitting [Ctrl + I] when prompted before installing the OS?

here's a good question: dose it always happen around the same time? new mobo=shutdown to prevent damage, first thoughts are hardware failure/instability.

edit: hmm.. or a dead disk. the dead disk's controller may make it show up to the SB, but when it comes time to actually write data and FS to it it dies

edit2: final verdict: new mobo... edit(1)... maybe bad sata port or faulty south bridge. also if you load it up with disks can be unstable. may want to go into bios and bump the voltage going to it by a notch

As mentioned in my previous post, if the OP is trying to run the HDDs in RAID off the Sil5723 SATA ports, he would have the issues he is describing. Here is info from the motherboard product page on those SATA ports:
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=vmCRVOru0T6aXX9O
Quote:
Silicon Image Sil5723 (Drive Xpert technology):
2 x SATA 3Gb/s ports
Supports EZ Backup and Super Speed functions
*Drive Xpert function is available only when the hard disk drives are set as data drives.
**Due to the Windows XP/ Vista limitation, the RAID array with the total capacity over 2TB cannot be set as a boot disk. A RAID array over 2TB can only be set as a data disk only. For more information, please refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946557/en-us
So if he is running the RAID on these SATA ports, he needs to move them to the red Intel SATA ports and configure the RIAD using [Ctrl + I].

yea i didnt use those sata ports i used the right ones. and i can install on one 320 gig drive when its disabled in bios but not when i have them in raid. whats going on here? when i have both 320 raid drives disabled in bios i can still install to them in xp setup. but when i raid them the setup fails? i dont even load raid drivers i just have it enabled and configured in bios and raid config. and it fails when i load drivers too

i got it working!!! i installed xp on one 320 gig drive and it went fine. so then i went back and enabled raid, set up the drives WITHOUT shortstroking, booted the xp disk, loaded raid drivers, and boom. why is that? im gonna go back and short stroke after this raid setup gets formatted and installed. maybe it was a bad format? idk but it works!!!!

edit: nope just kidding im trying again

i got it to work, i dont really remember what i did because it was this morning and i was still kinda asleep. i remember switching sata cables on my non raid 1TB drive. everything was pretty smooth from there on out. oh and when xp setup said it was done, it actually wasnt. it loaded the screen where it said "15 seconds till reboot" or whatever and timed down, then after that it did not reboot. instead it took more info from the floppy drive and the cd as well. xp has some kinks but i love it all the same. this board is awesome by the way. 3.8 ghz with lower than stock vcore and no other changes.
