Possible to run 8 EVGA GTX 480 HC FTW on EVGA QUAD SLI board?

My question is in reference to folding. Now I dont think there exist a PSU that could handle it but. And EVGA quad SLi mobo has eight PCIe slots. using a single slot EVGA GTX 480 HC FTW it seems it would be theoretically possible. I know you cant do it for gaming or anything, I am just talking about you eight unlinked video cards........any comments? That would be some MAD PPD if so.

EDIT: make that 7 slots and cards.

I think that would possible. But impractical...

I don't see why not. Can only do 4-way SLI of course, but for folding ... should be able to do 7 cards, I'd think.

Completely impractical. But for someone with a butt load of cash laying around and who is really into computers, may do it. My biggest question is do they even make a psu capable of handling that kind of load?

7 expansions slots = 7 cards not 8. 7 gtx 480s would be hecka awsome! You would need 2 480mm rads to cool them though.

For a psu you would need 3 ultra x3 1600 watts.

I don't think it's this straight forward. There was someone in the Folding subforum that was trying to use the AASUS P6T6 WS, with 6 GPUs. I don't think he got all cards to Fold at the same time because Windows 7 had an issue recognizing all the cards.

So you would need to verify that the OS you would run can support all those cards.

Here's the thread,

I guess you could use more than one power supply, but no, there are no power supplies that can power 7 480s. I guesstimate you'd need about 2700 watts.
