[TNW] Foxconn considering shutting down some or all Mainland China factories - Page 3

I don't see them shutting down the factory permanently, it will just hurt business and will hurt the economy. Instead of that, they should get their act together and treat a worker like a worker and not suck every life they have.

also chinese workers are going on strike and demanding unions. I thought that might tie in a bit.

It seems like forcing the self-proclaimed "Communists" to recommend unionization might have been the purpose of this unusual level of media scrutiny. Foxconn now has a plausible, though evil/greedy, reason for pulling out of China and moving into orbit around the other hemisphere's Empire.

Not like they're losing anything. ATT as a company is made of fail and sauce. I have their DSL. Worst customer service ever. I can't imagine their wireless arm is any better.

Droid phones aren't bad, either. I love mine.

Though, honestly, Apple would just outsource to the next client. They don't care who makes this crap as long as they do it cheaply, and if foxconn charges more than the next guy they'll just go to the next guy. I highly doubt this would cause a shortage of iphones.

Right, because all 800k of their employees worked at the 1 single 'suicide' facility.

Can't they just automate all these jobs. Then use so much energy that they force carbon credits on the whole world in order to horde all the energy for themselves. Then run endless hours of ads on TV about the products till you finally buy one and then have to save up enough carbon credits to finally play crysis for 12 hours before realizing you're life has no meaning as it's simply about jumping through hoops that the planetary managers have laid down just to have as much control and authority as possible.
Then we can set up divisions among the haves and have nots so deeply ingrained that half the world runs around with a new iphone and the other half runs around with tell me about your iphone and I'll stab you t-shirts.

Yea my mistake the Hon Hai Industries' Foxconn factory in Shenzhen employs 400,000, that's still well below the national average suicide rate for China.

Right, now ask yourself, 'which employees'...? Was it the managers? Was it the janitors? The security people? Secretary? Additionally, & more importantly, consider what kind of time frame we're talking about here. All within a few months? A few weeks? A whole year?

There's a lot more to consider than just x number out of y number.

Unions in China huh? This could drive up labor costs and drive business elsewhere around the world. I dunno but the impacts of this could be big. This could really be a kick in the face of how China is emerging.

Or it could be nothing. I'd really like to see how this pans out.

“Taiwanese electronics maker Foxconn says it is considering moving some of its production back to the self-ruled island where it has its headquarters.”
If they are just going to move the factories to Taiwan, it will not have that much of an impact on us I don't think. What would they gain from doing so? Could they get away with more there? Wages lower/higher, etc? I'm just wondering what they are gaining from doing something like this.
