How do I get the gigabyte 890gx bios to install?

Thread Starter
I downloaded it from http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Mothe...S&FileID=15811

Then when I try to run it it says it's not compatible with my version of windows. Gigabytes site doesn't give me a choice to choose x64.

I'm a bit tipsy, but.. Burn it to disk or copy to a usb memory stick if your bios allows you to boot from usb. Reset comp, and change your boot priority to one or the other to boot first in bios. Exit bios and follow instruction bios flash gives you. Then turn off your comp, unplug it, throw a glass of water on it. When the water is dry turn your comp back on(plug it back in first). I couldn't find the Mobo bios flash thread, but everything excepting the water part should be true.

It's not a OS install.

So I can't just click on the .bat or .exe and flash it?

No. Don't ever, ever flash bios in the OS system! You could risk harming the OS or your system by doing that.

Just do what Genzel said. Get a usb stick and download the bios off from Gigabyte website and copy it there. Then reboot the computer and enter the CMOS setup to the flash utility.

If you need tutorial steps with pictures to guide you with, then I can do that. Let me know.

Okay so it's not working for me.

I put the bios informatin onto a 2gb usb stick. I set my boot order as USB-HDD first then USB-FDD second.

Also tried USB-ZIP. It didn't load anything said invalid operating system.

Do I need to make that usb stick a boot device? Meaning I need to put windows boot files on there or something?

you need to make that USB bootable.

alternatively, you could put it on a floppy (floppies rule for that stuff) if you have a floppy drive

you could also burn it to cd and then select boot from cd

also, try going into the bios and selecting the qflash feature.

Okay I just browsed the above and have followed the instructions there to make the USB bootable. It's currently formatting the USB. I'll be back in 10 minutes or so to report on what happens. If my computer dies on me, avenge my death pls.
