EVGA X58 SLI board only recognizes 6 storage devices?

My system is AHCI mode, if that has any bearing on this...

My HDD problem seems to be tied to my DVD drives and external HDDs as well. I have six SATA hard drives, two SATA DVD drives, and an external USB WD HDD.

Generally, my internal HDDs seem to be the lowest on the pecking order: if either DVD drive is connected or the USB HDD is plugged in, one (or two, if the case is) of my internals suddenly stop being recognized by the OS, and I have to restart to get them back.

It's either my mobo is dying, or, I'm thinking, AHCI mode is limited to 6 devices.

I don't quite know how to explain this. If I need to elaborate, please let me know.

I think it just has something to do with AHCI mode, when i had it enabled I would randomly loose my one tb and then the next day loose my 200gb turned it off and it hasnt happened since though.

I'd have to reinstall Windows to get to IDE mode, as if I'm set up for AHCI and run on IDE, boot times increase twentyfold. It's insane.
