I've had HORRIBLE luck ocing this chip. I don't know if it's my motherboard or what. But the farthest i've gotten with this is maybe 3-3.2... No joke. I tried 3.6 with 1.386 or 1.4 (can't remember) and no luck. It totally crapped on me and wouldn't boot back up after I ran prime for 5 secs.... I get around 15fps in GTA IV and around 25-35 fps in BC2 maxed out in both games with 1920x1080 ( I know I don't have a ba computer but I like the eyecandy. ) Would ocing this chip help? I'm hoping for maybe 5-15 fps gain. :/

Here is a pic of tabs of CPUz and HWmonitor. (Did a prime test with stock speeds and V's for 9hrs 13mins I think and temps got to 44c.)

Thanks

You might try running the ram at 2T for stability.

Your most likely going to need more than 1.4v to get 3.6ghz. My 720 tops out at about 3.6 but it needs like 1.45v-1.5v to be stable. Increase the volts and see how it goes. Also, for future reference, on c2 stepping chips(which yours is), make sure your ram is running at, or below 1333mhz. The earlier stepping chips couldn't handle ram above that.

And also, your cpu cooler might be holding you back as well. If you got a better cooler you would likely see a better oc.

i got mine at 3.7ghz 3cores. and the vcore is 1.475v in bios. but cpuz shows 1.5v

you have to raise you vcore at least at 1.45v in order to get 3.6ghz which is easily to get by only set your multi at 18x and keep your fsb at 200

Your ram is rated to run at 1333 according to CPU-Z. So you are fine there. If you want to change ram timings then you need to find the menu in the BIOS that has DRAM configuration or something similar. This may not be ram related but it's just a suggestion. If you try 2T and there is no difference, then you can look to something else. Some ram will run fine at 1T while some may not be stable. Also make sure that ram voltage is set properly.

Just looked it up, it's on the Cell Menu page.

Another suggestion for stabilizing ram is to raise the CPU-NB voltage up a small amount. Mine is at 1.17, but 1.2 to 1.25 should be okay as well. May or may not make a difference.

My 720 is very stable at 3.6 when I have it set with a 0.150v bump(1.475v). Anything below that and it gets unstable. I tried OC'ing with the auto voltage adjust enabled and couldn't get it above 3.2 . The auto voltage for 3.4 was in the range of what you are reporting. Try to give it a bit more juice and see what it does. I think you will obtain stability for 3.4-3.6 at 1.45- 1.475v, but as mentioned above you cooler might limit you a bit.

Good luck
