New to AMD . AMD FX or AMD X2 dual core? - Page 2

in games AMD Athlon 64 FX Series is best... but the price is kinda high... i would recommend the FX-57 (cost a little more then the FX-55) or if you can realy spend alot of money the FX-60 is crazy!

Yeah, it's true. The FX-60 is in the $ 1,000's.
So, if you have that much money, and are willing to spend it, go with it. Otherwise get the 4800, or even the 4400, because you could overclock those to be as powerful as the FX-60.

Wow those FX-60's are the dough! Lets just say I want to stay under $600. Sounds like I am hearing this:

1. 4800 X2
or
2. FX-57
or
3. Opteron 180

I have a fella offering to sell me a pair of new matched Opteron 180's for $600 is that a good deal?

Which would be the best out of those 3?

Well... All of then are good, but for a dual core, I think you can OC the opty more.

Here's an Opty at 500 dollars, but you said that some guy was offering to sell you two opty 180's for 600 dollars, so if they are working fine, I say go for it!
But, just incase, here's the link

Opty

Ok, sounds like a plan. He is saying the Opterons are new. Nice!

Is the 180 the best opty to get? Or is there a better one to look for?

Just so I understand it right, the opty is basically the same chip as the X2 4800 chip, just tested better and better OC potential?

Thanks!

Yeah, opty's are WAY more overclockable, because they were designed for servers, so they need to be more umm "tough" heh...

But, I would say go with the Opty.

Ok, I will go with the Opty then! SOLD! lol

Can you guys/gals tell me what AMD 64 chip the OPTY 180 would be most comparable to, just so I can get a mental picture?

Also, is the 180 the best to get for a price under $600-$700? I noticed Opterons get up into the 200 and 800 series...

Thanks so much for all the help. Soon enough I will be an AMD expert! (with your gracious help)

LOL, I heard Opterons were handmade and tested for 2 1/2 years, then sat in a cellar and aged to perfection for several more. After that, they're boxed in pure gold and are the most PWNZOR chips in the world! OMG! AMD doesn't even test there other products and uses used silicon in them! Opterons!!
/sarcasm off
