Adding games to Steam?

Thread Starter
Is it possible to use the CD key from a boxed copy and enter it to Steam? I recently found a lot of games I bought and would honestly rather add them to Steam. If the game is on Steam, will the program recognize the key?

Game keys have to be for Steam specifically or they wont work in the add key section.

You can still add shortcuts to your games, but that sucks IMO.

Yes. However, ...

Quoted from steam support

This will only add a shortcut to your game in the Steam client. This will not allow you to download updates for your game through Steam nor allow you to use this game as proof of ownership for your Steam account. Only games purchased or registered through Steam can receive automatic updates and function as proof of ownership for a Steam account.
So probably not what you were hoping for.

Dang, alright. I just rather use Steam than not being able to play a game if I lose the key or cd itself.
