HUGE cursor/flickering screen, 5870 the problem?

Hello guys!

I recently upgraded to a 5870, and I absolutely LOVE it. Crysis on Very High is so awesome! But anyways, I've had a few problems. For instance, my screen keeps flickering randomly at times, and suddenly my cursor decides to get HUGE and will not go back to normal unless I reboot. I have overclocked it, but not very hard, and I've never given it more than 1.34 volts, and it didn't stay like that for very long. It seems stable, though I haven't stress tested very much, about a minute or two in GPU tool and a few runs of 3dmark, and some gaming. The driver doesen't crash or anything and I can't see any artifacts. Is it the overclocking? Have I damaged the card from too much voltage? It's not like I'm going crazy but it's kinda annoying. Thanks in advance!

I kinda remember reading about the cursor issue when the 58XX series were first released, pretty sure it was fixed with driver updates, are you running old drivers? :l
post #3 of 13
Do you have updated drivers? I thought they fixed that problem a while back. Current driver is 10.5

What drivers are you using? Sounds like problems people had when they originally released the card, since you are using two monitors I would recommend the 10.5 drivers that just came out, I had some issues on the original drivers with fewer and fewer with each release, with the 10.5 my card is now flawless.

lol

If you are using the latest drivers though, try updating the bios on your motherboard.

Read some more of that forum. They apparently have had some luck with the flashing the Motherboard to the latest BIOS update. The new version designation is F4o (or later), dated 6/Nov/2009.

BIOS download link:

Info begins here:

[edit: Changed BIOS version & date to match your Motherboard – GA-P55-UD3 and added link to BIOS download page]

[edit2:
Be warned: BIOS updates can be potentially harmful to your system. Make absolutely sure you know what you are doing, the risks, and the remedies if something goes awry!]
I don't know how true that is so you should probably take some time to read the posts over there or google a little

Thanks for replying guys, I am running catalyst 10.5 and the F3 bios on my mobo. Guess I could try updating the bios, unless anyone has any other ideas

EDIT: *** it just became normal again, weird :S And when it was big, it was only that way on the Benq monitor, not the LG one :S

I had the flickering with my 5850 on my second monitor, turns out the Idle clocks of the 5xxx series don't adjust to another monitor. All I did was overclock my card in MSI AfterBurner, from 400/900 Idle, to 700/1125 idle, and the flickering was gone.
