AALS= caviar blacks
AAKS= caviar blues

They are not both blacks.
Also, the blacks perform at least as well, if not better, and are better built.

AAKS was the premiere drive before WD started the "black/blue" naming

I'd like to see a benchmark today seeing as reading the results on that old thread (CravinR1) were with older chipsets. I'd be willing to bet that my AALS outperforms the AAKS now, but I have no way of testing both since I only have the AALS. If you have the AAKS, let me know and let's bench again. Let me know!?

Yeah that picture is my AAKS on ICH8R (same mb I have now)

I guess I could put it on mmy son's Gigabyte P35-S3G which has ICH9

So post your AALS speed. If you want I'll run a different version of HDTune but thats the speed its always ran since I bought them 3 years ago

Good catch. That's odd, I could have sworn there were AAKS Blacks...

Also the 640 gigs are alot faster than the 500 gig aaks

My aaks 500 gig gets in the mid 70's average, where my 640 gig gets in the mid 90's (as you can see above)
