get a good socket with good ammount of proc's to play with
and u can easily upgrade things every year
want to stay up to date with games on a budget?
spend no more then 200$ on a graphics card every year or 2 years, works well for me
when the processor gets old, get the next that will fit int he socket for 100-200$
id never spend more then that in my opinion for a processor or vid card

a good mobo is about 100 bucks, simple there
only difference u would have to get the DDR2 most likely, grab a gig there not too expensibve these days =)
Yeah...I should be getting a raise in a month or so. More $$=more material things I don't need...but want. 2 PC's capable of running Half life 2 would be great. Maybe I can run one as a server.

Quick question, could my current rig run as a server? How about with a 2.8ghz processor?

My board maxes out at a 2.8 northwood.
