New rig having problems - need help!

Hello OCN,

I have built a new rig (not my sig rig!) that just refuses to install windows. It gets to about 68% and stops each time. Please help with diagnosing the issue!

Here is a list of things I have tried:

-Different optical drive
-Different windows 7 disk
-Replaced thermal paste on northbridge's heatsink
-deleted / reinstalled several times - always stops at 68%

This has been going on for too long - I need a fix for this!

when mine does that i just open the disk drive, let it sit until the " NO SYSTEM DISK" error screen pops up and then just reinsert the disk and it keeps going. Thats the only fix i have found for that besides COMPLETELY different harddrives.

What motherboard are you using? power supply? i had the same problem and it was a known issue with the p6t deluxe v2 and the tx950 recognized by both asus and corsair. had to RMA both and problem fixed... examine your components, look through the manufacturer forums... i never really suspected neither one and low and behold.

Specs are as follows:

mobo - ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD
psu - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V
cpu - AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3
graphics - EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800
ram - OCZ Gold Edition 4GB DDR3
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Blue 640 GB 7200 RPM

where would I go to figure out if they are incompatible?

I'd check a couple things
-ram settings in BIOS, I'd make them default, check vdimm setting
-possibly try a different HDD
-See if a live linux disc works
-run Memtest from a bootdisk
