News script on my website

Hi everyone

So im making a website where i will quite often need to update the news and im wondering if someone knows of any good free news scripts where people could also comment on the news?

My second, but not as important question would be that, how do i get my latest forum posts to show up as a link on my index.html page. Something a bit like here on Ocn's frontpage news?

This would be all i need to know! I hope its not too much of a bother.

I can help you with all of that, but I need way more info.

What do you mean people could comment on the news? Like, you want to write news & have them comment? That's going to require a blog or forum. You could then create a JavaScript include file from the articles & be able to present that news in any page by including the JavaScript file.

For the second question, see the last sentence in the first paragraph.

Thought it out a bit better...

If you can find a way to use XML for your news, it would do WONDERS for you. You could then create HTML pages as well as JavaScript includes to insert in each/a page of your website.

Thanks for your reply! Im sorry i didnt explain better. What i wanted to do was as you said. I want to post news/articles and then users could be able to comment on them below! The thing is, i was looking for a premade free script for this and infact i already have one, but that one is only for the "comment section". The problem with it is that i need to go to the website where i got that script from, login there and only from there can i remove posts by users if needed.
However what pains me the most with that script is that i need to constantly go edit my index.html if/when i post news. And after that i need to create a new html page for the particular article/news with the comments section below.

I hope this didnt get too confusing.

Anyway i think i might be better off in the long run learning how to do this stuff by myself!

I would appreciate it if anyone could point me to a good website where i could learn everything id need to know to get the basics. I have heard good things about w3schools.com, but is this website enough?

Also if someone wants to take a look at the website or help me further in private, please give me a message!

You did fine. I understood the majority of your post.

What i wanted to do was as you said. I want to post news/articles and then users could be able to comment on them below!
When you say users, do you mean anonymous or registered users?

The thing is, i was looking for a premade free script for this and infact i already have one, but that one is only for the "comment section".
It's probably better to use existing JavaScript to 'include' the comment box in your page than to attempt writing it.

The problem with it is that i need to go to the website where i got that script from, login there and only from there can i remove posts by users if needed.
That's one advantage you would have with creating your own 'comments box'. If you're using anonymous, it shouldn't be too hard. If you're using registered members, than yeah, you'll probably need to keep using the script you found.

However what pains me the most with that script is that i need to constantly go edit my index.html if/when i post news. And after that i need to create a new html page for the particular article/news with the comments section below.
You definitely shouldn't have to go through that hassle. This might take a long time to setup, but once setup, you'd never have to mess with it again.

You could try to create an JavaScript include that reads the last "x" amount of articles & displays them on any page you include the JavaScript in. Then, you could create a hide/show div that would automatically include the comments box within it.

I hope this didnt get too confusing.
I believe you've made it very clear.

Anyway i think i might be better off in the long run learning how to do this stuff by myself!
If you have the time, definitely! Go for it and attempt to learn doing this yourself. It will never hurt to tell potential-employers about your experience with PHP/JavaScript/etc.

I would appreciate it if anyone could point me to a good website where i could learn everything id need to know to get the basics. I have heard good things about w3schools.com, but is this website enough?
w3schools.com is a very good site. I've learned HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP/MySQL (somewhat)/XML/XSL with it. The best site to learn scripting languages on the web, in my opinion.

Also if someone wants to take a look at the website or help me further in private, please give me a message!
Private Message was sent!
Good luck with whichever path you decide to embark on!

I use DotNetBlogEngine for news, it is super simple to skin/use/customize and totally free. I use it my sites such as http://naspinski.net

It is .Net, which I like the best, but a lot of people here seem not to
