So a 3.5GHz (I'm guessing) hexacore Core i7, impressive but not worth $1500. Or even $1000 in my opinion.

At this price point why not get a SR-2 and two quad core xeons?

Perfect for rich people who don't overclock, I guess.

Charging hundreds of dollars more for an identical CPU with a base multi 1 higher, Intel are geniuses if this sells. People could achieve identical results themselves on any basic heatsink with 2 mins of work...

The i7 970 is good. I hope the price will be dropped when the Sandy Bridge is on sale.

if it was an 8 core i might entertain pawning off my 980 and getting a 990. but if its just a 980 with a slightly higher stock speed then whats the point of this chip. or maybe intel couldn't or didn't want to fix the whole 980x instant death from turning of HT and disabling 5 cores.

I guarantee you this chip is in the top .5% binning, is very leaky, and is an extreme overclocker. Its not just some slightly faster processor. Its a record setter.
