Warranty denied

Thread Starter
My son in law bought his X box 360 back in 08 from Walmart, he has had no problems with it since then, he recently upgraded from a 32 inch SDTV to
a 50 inch after about 1 week of playing MW2 he got the RROD.

Same story as everyone else "contact M$ send in for repair"

His warranty was denied on the basis that his inside serial number does
not match the outer serial number. M$ claims it was tampered with

My son in law is a great guy but does not have the required skills to open up
an X box and mod it, if it had been done it would have been me doing it.
(I have been trying to talk him in to the Lian li XB01)

MS says take it back to Walmart , Walmart says it has been more that one year so it is M$'s problem.
I say "it's my turn to give it a try"

Just another reason why to not buy expensive electronics from Walmart

If there is another thread like this please feel free to link it here, I would like to see how often this happens

Try MS again, and talk to one of MS' service reps directly. They are rather lenient on this, so maybe they just messed up?

Or do you have more than one xbox360?

Also, if all else fails, xclamp mod it

The first time it went to M$ some one screwed up and just denied the claim with out doing any paper work, M$ had my son in law send it back a second time and this time they put red arrows pointing to the reason warranty was being denied.

This machine has never been opened up for any reason, not even to clean out the dust

I figure someone must have bought an X box with the upgraded mother board and swapped it out with their older board, then returned the new unit to Walmart for a refund.

Son in law has been on the phone with M$ many times and is still trying

Tell walmart that, and show them the MS proof as evidence.

2008, depending on the model, you shouldn't of gotten anything but a Jasper unit (unless if stock is slow...).

yeah, I doubted Sam's Club's 5 year (total) warranty, but they shipped out a new 60" Mistsu DLP to replace our overheating 52" Panasonic DLP A nice 720p-->1080p upgrade, too

And they didn't pickup our old one (probably trying to save space at warehouse by kicking out old DLP), so a simple fan replacement later, I now have two working HDTV

Only posting this because it might be relevant for future purchases? It wasn't easy to get the replacement, lol. Two weeks of threats, and they finally call back a month later, with a new TV, lol.

My Xbox (first generation), I believe it was the Xenon unit finally got the 3 RROD.

Funny thing was that it outlasted my friend's Falcon unit

I was hoping for a Jasper unit or something newer but I got another xenon.

I'm not complaining, but I wish I got the HDMI port so I can hook it up to my monitor.

If MS cant help you, send in BBB report. This will more likely get their attention

I've already posted before, it has to do with the solder selected for linking the IC to the package. Actualy, I need to correct that post.

isn't there a tamper proof sticker on the case? if that's unbroken, it just proves it wasn't tampered with... I'd get back on the phone with them and use that as evidence (and definitely speak to some upper management people)
