External: Seagate vs Western Digital vs Iomega

Thread Starter
Hello guys,
Looking for the best external Hard drive out of these 3, i found each of them for the same prices on the net and would like to buy the best one of them.

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

Seagate 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST310005EXA101-RK

iomega Select 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 34579

i know those prices are not same in those sites, but its just for reference,
just wondering about easy to use, speed (main concern) and anything else you guys would think naming one of them the best.

thank you guys!

Doesn't really matter since you are on USB 2.0. You will only get ~30MB/s. All those drives can do that even at the inner platters.
Once again...

Personally I'd go with the WD.

Seagate drives have been having some rather nasty issues lately, and Seagate either hasn't been able to or hasn't cared enough to fix the issues properly. (remember remember the 1.5TB seagates). Seems Seagate QC is lacking. My opinion of them is "unreliable at best".

I have 3 2TB My Books currently which have worked flawlessly. Obviously, being USB 2.0 my transfer rates aren't much above 28mb/s but that would be true of any USB external. My only complaint is the WD VCD "feature" - a virtual CD that is loaded immediately upon installing any WD My Book external and NOT something that can be removed by wiping the drive as with most bull**** bloatware as the data doesn't actually reside on the drive. However, it can be removed through a firmware modification which WD has provided a tool specifically for (it's easy, just a few clicks).

I've had two iomega drives, which I didn't like. However, I had no logical reason for not liking them. They performed just fine, never gave me any trouble at all for the two weeks I had them plugged in... but I felt like they were spewing bad karma all over the place - made me nervous and I never did trust them with my data, which made them pointless. Needless to say they're no longer in use.

Iomega is the best, they run pretty cool because most of their external harddrives are made with aluminum or cold material. When you touch it it feels cold. I also own seagate and both Iomega and Seagate run good for me. I just like the cold feeling of the Iomega drives, it makes me feel like that it should last long with that type of material. Though, I've dropped both of my seagates on the ground and it still works.
