BIOS Update Needed to run Asus Sabertooth?

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I was wondering whether a BIOS update would be required for an ASUS Sabertooth 55i motherboard with an i7 875k installed? The reason I ask this question is due to the fact that I plan on purchasing an "open box" Sabertooth from Newegg.

Upon researching, I found out that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard, but only with 1408+ BIOS. I called the ASUS motherboard department and a lady told me that the motherboard may or may not post with the CPU; however, she also told me that they provide a chip with the 1408 bios on it.

Should I purchase the motherboard knowing it will post or not, because I do not have another CPU if it needs to flashed.

Thanks in advance, all.

I have a feeling it will work. It my show up as "unknown CPU" or something like that. Just go into the BIOS, run the BIOS updater (forgot what Asus calls it) and then restart after you are done.
